Located in Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East. Al-Matḥaf al-Miṣrī in Arabic is also known as the Cairo Museum.
It houses an unparalleled collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including treasures from King Tutankhamun’s tomb and countless other historical pieces. The museum also houses the splendid statues of the great kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the builders of the pyramids at the Giza complex.
The EMC (Egyptian Museum in Cairo) opened in 1902. Today, it still offers a comprehensive overview of Egyptian history, from pre-dynastic times to the Greco-Roman period. If you are keen to see the biggest Egyptian collection ever, the EMC is a not-to-miss landmark!
