description

Karnak Temple, one of Egypt’s largest and most important religious complexes, is located in Luxor, on the east side of the Nile River bank, covering more than 2 square kilometers. The temple complex was constructed over 2,000 years ago and served as a place of worship for the gods, particularly Amun-Ra. The name Karnak means "fortified village." That's because the Karnak Temple Complex consists of a number of temples, chapels, and other buildings in the form of a village.

The Great Hypostyle Hall, with its 134 colossal columns, is the highlight of the temple; it is part of the largest religious building ever built: the Temple of Amun-Ra. The site is vast, and exploring it fully gives visitors a glimpse into ancient Egyptian culture, architecture, and spirituality.

At night, the Karnak complex comes to life with the most incredible sound and light show in several different languages.
